Make 2018 the Year for Children to Hear Better
Here are two simple steps — whether you work in a school or a children’s clinic — that can make a big difference for the children you work with.
In the school
1. Perform daily checks on hearing aids and receivers
Making this a part of your morning routine ensures that no student with hearing loss misses the vital lessons and social time provided. The two quick ways to do this are either by listening to the hearing aid and Roger system through a listening tube attached to the ear mold or by using a listening checker. Either the DHH or classroom teacher can perform the listening check each morning to be sure the hearing aids and Roger devices are working properly.

2. Integrate the Roger Pass-around Mic.
Many classrooms have a teacher microphone, typically the Roger Touchscreen Mic. Did you know that interactive lessons and group work make up over a third of a student’s day?1
The Roger Pass-around microphone captures peer voices during Q&A sessions and group time. Inputs from the Pass-around mic amplify directly to ear-level receivers as well as a classroom Dynamic SoundField speaker.Using the Pass-around mic ensures that a student with hearing loss hears the full classroom discussion.
In the clinic or children’s hospital
1. Talk to parents about audibility.
If you haven’t compared the sound quality differences yet, listen to these Hearing is Believing recordings! Nine out of 10 listeners agree Phonak provides the best pediatric audibility available.
You can share these recordings with the families you serve. For another resource to help you demonstrate hearing loss and the benefits of hearing aids, use the Benefit Demonstrator in your Target Software (click on the headphone icon in the toolbar at the bottom of your screen to launch this tool).
2. Verify your SoundRecover2 Settings.
High-frequency amplification that is audible but does not distort other sounds is key for auditory brain development and complete speech understanding. SoundRecover2 improves access to high frequencies while maintaining low and mid-frequencies.
